Proxies offer a wide range of benefits to networks including increased security and bandwidth savings. They are commonly used in business and school environments, but you can also configure them at home if your internet speeds slow down. Windows 10’s Settings app and Control Panel are where you can manage proxy settings. If you’re using a proxy for school or work, ensure that the Use automatic detection settings and Use setup scripts are On under the Automatic proxy Setup section.
To modify your settings manually to alter your settings manually, you can open the Internet Options window via the Control Panel or by searching for “Internet options” in the Search bar. Click the Advanced tab, then open the LAN settings. In the Address and Port fields, type in the details of your proxy provider. Select the box Use proxy server for your local area network and close the Internet Options Window.
Sometimes, malware could mess with your network’s proxy settings to prevent you from getting online. If the error “Windows cannot automatically detect this network’s proxy settings” persists then run a scan using an anti-malware application and check if it helps.
If the problem persists it is possible to reset the proxy settings through the Registry. However, be careful because altering the Registry could cause irreparable damage to your system.
